Hi! Mrs. W here...a few of us enjoyed discovering some more Cherokee culture at the Oconaluftee Indian Village. Highlights were watching social (as opposed to war) dancing...The Quail, The Corn, and our favorite, The Bear (grrrrrr.) The gals enjoyed hearing how the women were quite influential in the tribe...even deciding when they went to war. We learned that the Eternal Flame, the center of Cherokee life, was carried to Oklahoma during the Trail of Tears...in the 1960's, part of that flame was returned to NC and we saw it on display, burning outside the theatre.
To have a part in His plan for the world…what an amazing privilege! He has given you talents and gifts to bless other people and has entrusted each of you to carry out service to others in His name. It is so beautiful to know that at such a young age, you are all able to empty yourselves as you prepare nightly to enter into another day of service and meet the needs of those whom you are serving.
ReplyDeleteJenna, we are thankful each day for the growth you are experiencing. To read about the moments that make up each of your days makes us feel connected.
This blog has not only been a comfort to those of us that are separated from you, but it’s also created several opportunities, at least for me, to share with others who may not really know Him, what the leaders and youth of Harvest are doing this week. And when they smile and ask a question or two, not only is He working through you in Cherokee, but also here at home, by affecting others who may not yet recognize from Whom their happiness and curiosity come. Praying for your continued inspiration, strength, and safety.
The week is flying by and all of you will soon be home, filled with memories that will last you a life time and the realization that God has a purpose for your lives. Be seeing you!
